There are a lot of good things about this fractal. First of all, the color. That hot pink is very hard to work with. In my experience it doesn't blend and shade very well. In a lot of fractals that use it, I have a hard time seeing detail and structure. But that is not the case here, and that alone is an impressive (if subtle) technical merit. I also like the fbm/plasma ish textures that you've applied to the pink parts. It makes them seem more 3d, and very glossy. This is a great example of texture and form going hand in hand. And lastly, the compositing. I LOVE that you've gone for the corner, instead of something more tame and symmetrical. It really lends this image a dynamism that not a lot of fractals reach.
But something is holding me back from 100% loving this image and I think it's because it doesn't really make me feel anything. I can cerebrally appreciate the technique and editorial decisions that went into it, but interpretively, it leaves me cold. Perhaps it is because it is very literal, but then again, not all literal fractals have this problem for me. I guess this critique would be more useful if I could point to a simple technical issue that I disliked, but unfortunately, my reservations are much more nebulous. The image just does not move me.
